NameFLOW-Paradise piloting X.500(93) Pilot (NP-93)
In March 1995
participants of the NameFLOW-Paradise international X.500 directory service
decided to launch a pilot to test the 1993 edition of the X.500 standard. The
short term goal of the pilot is to gain experience with 1993 compliant
implementations to pave the way for a full scale X.500(93) service next year,
allowing more software vendors to participate. The transition is a necessary
step towards the creation of a more universal directory.
A press release
announcing the Pilot was sent out on 4 May 1995.
Pilot Overview
1. Root Context Tests
2. Inter working and Scaling Tests
The biggest challenge is that "standard X.500" looses some of the advantages
over the Quipu model. To get a comparable service there is a need for Managing the Root Context.
An Internet Draft is forwarded to solve this problem. In April 1996, a X.500 ISO/ITU-T Meeting
was used to discuss this particular issue.
