Goals
- determine what the effects of SDH implementations (mainly concerning
concatenation) will have on aggregated traffic over
these SDH links.
- make international/national/intercontinental SDH providers aware of the
problems concerning the lack of SDH concatenation implementations
Description
It seems that a lot of connectivity providers
in Europe, provide there SDH services
over equipement that is not able to provide concatenation of multiple
STM-1 channels (to realise ONE clear channel).
This leads to the effect that if one one wants a clear channel of 644
Mbit/s (STM-4c) between two routers this is sometimes not (yet) possible to get it.
In most instances this is an STM-4 link which is
in effect 4 seprate channels of 155 Mbit/s (and the equipement on this STM-4 will
have to do the multiplexing and demulitplexing).
This activity should provide stimuli for the SDH connection providers and
routers/switches manufacturers to implement concatenation in their equipment.
