Europe's GÉANT, the world's highest speed computer network, goes global

Logo  Friday 29 February 2008, Cambridge, UK: A news release was issued today at an EC press briefing in Brussels, to celebrate the achievements of Europe's GÉANT, the most advanced research network in the world, which enables ground-breaking research collaboration in fields such as climate change, radio astronomy and biotechnology.

At the press briefing Mario Campolargo (DG INFSO, responsible for GÉANT) gave a short political overview on the achievements of GÉANT2; Vincent Piket (Europe-Aid, working on the cooperation between GÉANT and Asia) presented on the impact of TEIN2 across the whole Asia-Pacific region; and Dai Davies (General Manager of DANTE, the company that operates the GÉANT network) described the enormous capacity and high performance of the GÉANT2 network, and briefly explained its development programme. The press briefing was held in advance of the EU's "GÉANT2: A Global Leader" conference on GÉANT in Bled, Slovenia, 3-4 March.
