Transmission equipment for the GÉANT network - Prior Information notice (PIN)
26-11-2009 Cambridge DANTE has issued a Prior Information Notice (PIN) for transmission equipment with the following topics of interest:
i. Provision of 100G capable ultra long haul (ULH) DWDM transmission equipment for dark-fibre routes on the pan-European telecommunications network GÉANT ( www.geant.net), together with associated equipment installation support and maintenance. The equipment shall support on the client side 10 gigabit Ethernet, STM-64, STM-256 and 100 gigabit Ethernet interface and should have the options of OTN type client interfaces.
ii. Provision of accompanying network management and operations capabilities. In support of the equipment described at point i., element and network management software shall be offered. The management software shall have the following main functionalities: service provisioning, service monitoring, alarm handling and correlation to the services, north-bound interfaces, redundancy options of the management system and preferably Internet protocol (IP) communication between the management system and the network elements.
iii. Provision of sub-lambda granularity switching functionality, integrated in the DWDM transmission equipment or separate equipment, with a common management system. The equipment proposed at point i. should preferably have add & drop and grooming capabilities of lower speed circuits (1-10 Gbps). The management of these capabilities should be fully integrated in the network management system of the DWDM equipment.
The interested parties in the forthcoming contract notice are requested to express their willingness to participate in an information exchange exercise regarding their technology in advance of the contract notice. This will include preparation of a selection of European dark-fibre routes, used by the GÉANT network, to be equipped by the participants. A participant in the information exchange will be asked to provide technical information of the proposed equipment together with budgetary financial information for the equipment hardware, management (hardware and software), installation and support & maintenance costs.
