Bulgaria fully connected to GÉANT!

On March 18th 2005, our Bulgarian partner, Information Society Technologies Foundation (ISTF) became directly connected to the GÉANT network.

The new 155 Mpbs link to Sofia empowers the Bulgarian academic community with the opportunity to collaborate with their European colleagues as full partners. The move will also support the work of the ISTF to facilitate the integration of Bulgarian educational, research and cultural resources into the international arena.  

With support from the DANTE operations team, the 155 Mpbs link connecting ISTF to the GÉANT PoP in Budapest started production use at 01:00 hrs EET. Prior to this new, direct connection, a 34 Mbps link to Bulgaria was kept active by GRNET and the SEEREN partners. DANTE would like to welcome ISTF in becoming the latest fully-connected member of the GÉANT network.

A partner in GÉANT since January 2004, ISTF is also one of 32 project partners in GÉANT2, providing connections to 34 European countries.
