EUMEDGRID First Conference announcement and Call for papers
Empowering eScience Across the Mediterranean
Rome, 15 September 2006, University of Roma Tre
Jointly organized by INFN/University of Roma Tre and GARR
The EUMEDGRID 1st Conference will present the vision of cross-national eInfrastructures as a driving force towards widening the European Research Area and bridging the digital divide between Europe and the neighboring Mediterranean Countries.
According to the EUMEDGRID view, only concrete cooperation initiatives can actually contribute to such objectives, involving the scientific communities from countries across the Mediterranean as actors, not just passive “beneficiaries”.
The scientific field is of course a preferential ground to create a true collaborative environment, ultimately promoting scientific and technological development.
The EUMEDGRID Conference will discuss how grids can become a major instrument for international cooperation in eScience and beyond, also thanks to the presentation of real, operating application and case histories.
The European approach to cooperation policies for the Mediterranean and other neighbor countries will be as well discussed, with a special attention to the novelties introduced by the upcoming 7th Framework Program for Research and Scientific Development and European Neighborhood Programme.
In this framework, contributions are invited on scientific applications:
- Already working in a Grid environment or currently approaching the porting on this technology (in the latter case, a brief explanation of the motivation of such technology shift and of expected benefits will be appreciated).
- Involving at least one of the Mediterranean countries engaged in the EUMEDGRID Project. Subordinately, applications of regional interest, which do not currently involve any but are interested in new partners from these countries, could be taken in consideration as well.
- With the opportunity of arrange a demo or other visualization of how actually the application works
To propose a presentation, extended abstracts of max 1200 words (see below for details) must be submitted in English, the official language of the conference, or French, within the final deadline of 15 July.
Abstracts should be submitted at: www.eumedgrid.org/Conf-Roma06/call.html, where are also available some details about admissible formats and information to be included in the proposal itself.
