Processes Analyst in Network Operations
DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe), plans, builds and operates advanced networks for research and education. We are seeking applications for the position of Process Analyst, within the Operations Team. This post involves travel mainly in Europe and occasionally worldwide.
The description and automation of processes are key parts of a network operations environment. In a networking environment such as GEANT2, processes describe the activities and flows that are involved in the planning, implementation and maintenance of the network and the services provided through this network. Example of activities described in the operational processes are the implementation of IP peerings or the set up of new Points of Presence across Europe. These processes are currently supported by different tools such as an Operations DataBase, Trouble Ticket Systems and various service reports.
The Role
The Process Analyst will take an active part in the description of new operational processes and the improvement of existing ones and will act as an interface between the network operators and the developers in charge of automating them.
Responsibilities include working with the Network Operations team, understanding and gathering their requirements for automating network processes, supervising the implementation with the development team, making sure that the developments follow the initial specifications. Maintaining good working relationships with DANTE partners, making sure that the already defined processes fulfil their requirements and participation in international development activities that relate to multi-domain operational process, preparing reports, procedure handbooks and other documentation as required.
The ideal candidate will be proactive and have proven competency in a similar position, have clarity of thought and expression, with good written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail is essential, along with experience with Database design and/or programming. Particularly valuable would be experience with MySql, PHP, HTML or JavaScript. Candidates must have experience with network operations, Trouble Ticket Systems or Network Operations Centre environments. A willingness to understand how operational experience can be translated into useful tools is required and an education to degree level will be an advantage.
