Logistics Engineer (Operations)
DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe), plans, builds and operates advanced networks for research and education. We are seeking applications for the position of Logistics Engineer, within the Operations Team. This post involves travel mainly in Europe and occasionally world-wide.
The Role
Working within the team responsible for the development, installation and operations of the network and network services, currently GEANT2 and DANTE World Services, the Logistics Engineer will focus on the hands-on Logistics tasks within the team. The work currently involves the implementation and operation of the network and network services at the DWDM, SDH and IP levels across 27 countries.
The main responsibilities will include carrying out site surveys, implementing Points of Presence (PoPs), hardware ordering/shipping, configuring and administrating network resources, co-coordinating the implementation of international circuits and interconnections, liasing with the NREN representatives, Colo housing representatives and circuit and equipment providers. Preparing reports, procedure handbooks and other documentation and knowledge base population.
The successful candidate will have organisational and hands-on skills, be educated to technical level and have proven competency in a field engineer capacity, be fluent in Microsoft Office and e-mail applications, with a well-organised and methodical approach. You must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and previous experience working in a multinational environment is desirable.
