DANTE and TERENA

DANTE's sister organisation is TERENA. TERENA is the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, and is based in Amsterdam in The Netherlands. TERENA carries out technical activities and provides a platform for discussion to encourage the development of a high-quality computer networking infrastructure for the European research community. The activities of DANTE and TERENA are separate but complementary, and our two organisations cooperate together in many activities. TERENA is the successor organisation to RARE, which founded DANTE.

More information about the background to both DANTE and TERENA, and the history of European research networking, is available from the History of Research Networking document linked alongside.

DANTE is an associate member of TERENA, and has participated over the years in several Task Forces set up by the TERENA Technical Committee. DANTE and TERENA have frequently cooperated, along with other actors within European research and education networking, as partners in research and development projects funded by the European Union's Research & Development Framework Programmes.

Further collaborative work is in the planning stage, concerning the Root Server initiative for example. The structure of GÉANT has brought DANTE and TERENA closer together as partners in the third term of this major project.

DANTE and TERENA share information on a regular basis in several other important ways: DANTE is an associate member of TERENA; TERENA is an observer at GÉANT Policy Committee meetings; DANTE is a member of the TERENA PR Task Force; and TERENA is a member of the GÉANT PR Network.

Further information about TERENA is available from the link on the right.
