DANTE's Shareholders
During the first year of DANTE's existence, RARE was the legal owner and only shareholder. On 25 March 1994, the ownership of the company was formally transferred to eleven national research networking organisations. Since then, there have been four additions to the shareholders' list: CESNET, HEANet, RENATER and RESTENA.
These fifteen shareholding organisations, listed below, are either NRENs or else government funding bodies which finance the NREN for their country. Usually when a government department is a DANTE shareholder instead of its country's NREN, it is because the legal status of the NREN under its country's laws does not permit it to own shares in another organisation.
The shareholders meet twice per year to discuss issues related to DANTE company policy, financing and management. The shareholders are represented by a Board of Directors to whom responsibility is delegated for overseeing the running of DANTE.
