Security
The GÉANT NOC with the assistance of DANTE is responsible for securing the GÉANT Network. Security co-ordination is provided by the GÉANT NOC and DANCERT
DANCERT is the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) serving users of services delivered by DANTE. It deals with computer and network security incidents related to DDOS, Bots, Spamming and infrastructure vulnerabilities that involve services operated by DANTE - for example the GÉANT2 network.
Part of this process is broken down into three components:
1) Logically securing core routers
- Protecting management & control plane of routers
- Applying filters to routers
2) Proactively monitoring anomalous traffic across network
- Using Netflow tools to detect DDos attacks
3) Proactively & Reactively assisting NRENs with resolving network threats
- Informing NRENs of issues affecting their networks
- Creating awareness to security related trends occurring on the backbone network.
Security related incidents are reported either to the GÉANT NOC or DANCERT who will evaluate the request before implementation.
Should you become aware of a security incident that involves the GÉANT2 network infrastructure or any other DANTE service, please contact the DANCERT team via the form linked opposite or by telephone on +44 1223 371 300. DANCERT should only be contacted for incidents originating from GÉANT2, or incidents that require coordination between many NRENs
